Prichard Creek
For a timber company to own a former mining property with the intent to restore the damage done to the forest and waterway is unusual. To put that land into conservation is virtually unheard of. But, this project goes even further.
In a significant conservation effort, IFG donated the easement, protecting nearly 2,000 acres along an important tributary of the Coeur D’ Alene River. This conservation agreement protects 1,023 acres of riparian habitat (10.5 miles of the 14-mile stream) and 921 acres of forested uplands.
Conservation easements are not a gift of land. They represent the rights that a landowner puts into the care of the land trust. The value of this donated easement equates to an over $3 million gift by IFG.
IFG’s efforts to restore this stretch of land and water will be possible through its partnerships with KLT and Trout Unlimited with the goals of restoring vital fish and wildlife habitat and forest health.
