Trails & Tales combines story time with a little bit of dirt time

Since 2021, Kaniksu Land Trust and the East Bonner County Library District have been bringing children’s books and nature walks to families at Pine Street Woods. Each week, the library’s Youth Librarian curates a collection of children’s books around a nature theme.

Get outside, enjoy a children’s book, and make new friends.

Together, KLT interns and library staff organize Trails & Tales each summer, giving interns hands-on experience in leadership, teamwork, and community partnerships. Library staff bring the stories to life, while our interns lead a short nature walk, share some nature knowledge, stop for snacks.

Trails & Tales gets little ones and their grownups out on the trail for stories, movement, and fresh air. Each week, a new theme ties the books and walk together, helping kids build early literacy skills while discovering plants, wildlife, and the world right around them. More than a story time, Trails & Tales helps families connect with each other, their community, and the place they love.

The 2026 schedule of themes and story titles will be posted here by June 1st.
