KLT Announces Opening in Sanders County, Montana

THOMPSON FALLS - Kaniksu Land Trust’s first hire in their Sanders County service area will be a Recreation and Outreach Coordinator. The person selected for this newly developed position will drive economic development in northwest Montana by establishing a central hub for outdoor recreation leadership in Sanders County, promoting northwest Montana as an outdoor recreation destination, and developing strategic partnerships to support the economic vision for Thompson Falls.

In 2020, a variety of community groups came together to participate in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) Program. The RERC process in Thompson Falls was a coordinated effort to develop community based priorities and establish an action plan to guide Thompson Falls in making meaningful progress towards implementing its economic vision. This project was designed to specifically implement multiple aspects of the RERC Action Plan & Thompson Falls Downtown Master Plan.

The Recreation and Outreach Coordinator will drive the outcomes envisioned by the RERC process.

“Our goal is to listen to the needs of the communities we serve and respond when we feel we can offer support. So, when the RERC process revealed an opportunity, we were excited to participate in this way,” said Katie Cox, KLT Executive Director.

The job description includes a mix of leadership, communications, administrative, and development qualities that will be necessary for the ideal candidate to successfully achieve the goals of the position based in Thompson Falls, Montana. KLT anticipates an October 1 start date. Applicants should submit a cover letter describing relevant skills and personal connection with land and water conservation and education, resume, and up to three professional references to info@kaniksu.org by Friday, September 3, 2021.
