  • Hosted by Nick Belfry, its intention is to connect interested people and share blacksmithing knowledge and skills.

    At each meeting, Nick will give a presentation of relevant information, practice skills and encourage members to socialize, connect, and share what they have learned as well.

    Parents must be present for kids ages 13-17yrs old.

    No need to register.

April 17, 24, May 1, 8 (4-week course)

  • Come practice the ancient craft of blacksmithing in this four part series!

    For each of the first three weeks, we will be completing a different project in order to learn the basics of heating steel and using the various tools to shape it.

    The course will culminate in the fourth week, when the student will pursue a project of their own choice and design, with guidance from the instructor.

April 19 | 9:30am - 12pm

  • Join Paige Belfry, ISA Certified Arborist and fine pruning expert, in a discussion about pruning trees and shrubs. Students will leave the class with a firm understanding of pruning techniques, basic plant physiology, and how to assess their own plants to create a pruning strategy. Paige will discuss topics including safety, tree biology, the why's of pruning, timing, and specific strategies for pruning special forms.

    Students should come prepared for a seated class and also should bring warm clothes/weather appropriate clothing for a field demonstration of pruning fruit trees.

  • This class will cover line and border stitches, filling stitches, sashiko patterns and how to embellish a favorite garment.

    Students will provide their own clothing to add embroidery, or embroider a patch for a future project. Stick and Stitch patterns with botanical themes will be available or students are welcome to create their own patterns. Instructions and all other necessary materials will be provided.

    A fun class to unlock the beauty of hand embroidery and give an old garment a new look!

    Ages 12+

April 27 | 2pm - 5pm

  • Offering plant relational holistic herbalism by re-enchanting the Human experience through plant-to-human relationships.

    In this class, Sandi will walk you through Pine Street Woods to find medicine in season. Discover introductory herbal terminology, plant identification, harvesting, plant signature of medicinal qualities and processing to begin making your own medicine to take home. You will also learn the basic materials needed for home hearth herbalism.

    Medicine for this class will depend on the season for April, but may include Horsetail, Oregon Grape flower, or other.

    Take home materials will include: your medicinal preparation, handout with resources and instructions and a handout with the Materia Medica for the plant.

    Please bring a journal and pencil or pen.

May 3 | 10am - 4pm

  • In this class students will learn the basics of carving functional and beautiful wooden spoons. Instruction will be given in how to source and select the best woods for carving, how to safely use a knife, gouge and/or hook knife and how to rough out, carve and finish a spoon.

    This is a beginner carving class. No prior experience required. Carving tools and a kevlar glove will be provided as well as a pre-cut spoon blank to work with.

May 10 | 9am - 3pm

  • This is a fun hands-on workshop, introducing students to the tradition of batik–applying wax and dyes to fabric–to create your own piece of art.

    During the day, we will learn about the history of this ancient practice, how to use a tjanting tools to apply wax to create a resist, how to use dyes to layer colors on the cotton fabric, and wax removal.

    By the end of our time together, you will have made your very own batik painting to take home with you.

May 17 | 4pm - 6pm

  • This workshop will be an introduction to Sashiko, an ancient style of Japanese stitching. Learn how to apply this technique to your mending projects.

    All materials will be provided. Just come ready to enjoy the motion of slow stitching and have patches ready for your favorite garments.

  • Explore different ways to make pine needle baskets. Learn which trees to harvest from, how to cure the needles, and what materials to use to sew them up.

    Ages 9 +

  • Try your hand at shaping red hot steel with this beginner's project! Learn to swing a hammer and perform the basic operations of tapering, bending, twisting, and laying out a work piece while having fun.

  • Walk through the fields and fringes of the forest and discover a variety of wild edible plants.

    Students will learn how to identify a variety of local greens to spice up their salads.

    This class finishes with a salad feast. Feel free to bring your favorite dressing and a bowl!

    Families and children are encouraged!
